The world of soccer was shaken on Wednesday by the news of the death of soccer player Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva. According to the Spanish newspaper Marca, both lost their lives in a traffic accident in the province of Zamora, in northwestern Spain, in the early hours of Wednesday morning, when their Lamborghini veered off the road and caught fire on impact. Authorities are continuing to investigate the exact circumstances of the accident.

Diogo Jota, global soccer star

Diogo Jota, born in Porto in 1996, was considered one of the great stars of world soccer. After training at Paços de Ferreira and playing for Atlético Madrid and Wolverhampton, he reached the top at Liverpool, where he established himself as one of the most decisive strikers in the Premier League. His scoring ability, tactical intelligence, and dedication on the field made him an idol for the Reds’ fans and a key player for the Portuguese national team, with whom he recently won the Nations League.

In recent days, Jota’s personal life had also made headlines in the Portuguese press, following his wedding to Rute Cardoso, the mother of his three children. Images of the wedding, published by ‘A Bola’, showed a happy footballer surrounded by his loved ones. The couple had been together for 10 years and married for 10 days…

André Silva was also a footballer, albeit an amateur. He played both as a left winger and as a center forward. According to the Transfermarkt platform, Silva developed his career in Portuguese clubs and did not establish himself in top-level professional football.

Personal life and legacy

Diogo Jota was known for his discretion and dedication to his family. Married to Rute Cardoso and father of three children, the Portuguese striker had recently shared moments of happiness with his loved ones, as reflected in the images of his wedding on June 22. Diogo and his family regularly participated in charitable initiatives and social projects, collaborating with charities and supporting causes related to children and grassroots sports in Portugal.

RIP.
