The men’s basketball field at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games is finally complete. After the pre-Olympics held during the week, the last four tickets that remained to be defined for the rings event have already been resolved. Spain, Greece, Brazil and Puerto Rico were left with the last FIBA tickets for the most important sporting event of the year.
In Greece, the local team took care of its favoritism. The Hellenic team, led by Giannis Antetokounmpo‘s 23 points, defeated Croatia 69-80 to qualify. The two-time NBA MVP was also the most valuable player of the Piraeus pre-Olympic tournament.
For its part, Puerto Rico also defended home court. The Puerto Ricans won 79-68 against Lithuania in the final of the San Juan tournament, to qualify for the Olympic Games after 20 years. José Alvarado responded to expectations despite his weak start to the pre-Olympic. In the final against the Lithuanians, the NBA Pelicans point guard was the MVP with 23 points.
Spain, meanwhile, was the champion in the pre-Olympic tournament in Valencia. The Hispanics won at home in Valencia, qualifying for Paris after beating Bahamas 86-78 in the final. Lorenzo Brown with 18 points was the best scorer for Sergio Scariolo’s team, who already have two silver medals in the Olympics (Beijing 2008 and London 2012) and a bronze (Rio 2016).
Finally, the surprise of the day, the blow to the locals, came from Brazil in Latvia. The South Americans defeated the Latvians 94-69 in Riga, with an intractable Leo Meindl who left 20 points in favor of the team captained by Marcelinho Huertas, who for his part contributed 12 points.
With these last four classifications already defined, the Paris 2024 table was completely defined for the competition. It will be held between Saturday, July 27 and Saturday, August 10 in two venues. The group stage will be played at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Lille, while the quarterfinals will be at the Bercy Arena.
