The image of the Romanian Ana Barbosu going from joy to sadness in a matter of seconds, while looking at the scoreboard in the heights that her bronze would be given to the American Jordan Chiles went around the world. On that occasion, in the middle of the gymnastics at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, a new points count requested by Team USA put Chiles on the podium and dropped Barbosu to a painful fourth place.
Barbosu’s disappointment and Chiles’ subsequent emotional crying in the arms of Simone Biles remained in the memory of past Games. However, all that was reversed by the CAS after the complaint presented by the Romanian delegation, accusing that the United States requested the review one minute after the regulatory time to appeal had ended. The Court of Sports Arbitration agreed with Barbosu’s team and decided to take the bronze from Chiles this time.
Due to the above, the American was finally left without the medal and published a heartfelt message in which she expressed feeling harmed by a decision that “feels unfair.” On her social media, the gymnast expressed: “I have no words. This decision feels unfair and is a significant blow not only to me but to everyone who has fought for my journey.”
“I now face one of the most challenging moments of my career. Believe me when I say that I have had many. I will approach this challenge as I have with others and do my best to ensure that justice is served. I believe that at the end of this journey , the people in control will do the right thing,” added the American.
The podium in floor gymnastics, finally, was made up of the Brazilian Rebeca Andrade and the legend Simone Biles.
