The Los Angeles 2028 (LA28) organizing committee unveiled on Tuesday the most comprehensive venue plan to date for the Olympic Games, following approval from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board last week. This plan promises to bring together the world’s best athletes in world-class facilities, showcasing the very best Los Angeles has to offer.

Olympic events will take place throughout the city and county of Los Angeles, highlighting iconic locations such as the Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area, which will host Olympic events for the first time in history. Competitions there will include 3×3 basketball, modern pentathlon, BMX freestyle, BMX racing, skateboarding park, and skateboarding street.

In the San Fernando Valley, squash will make its Olympic debut at Courthouse Square, located on the Universal Studios Lot, a famous site featured in movies like “To Kill a Mockingbird” and “Back to the Future.” Meanwhile, the vibrant Venice Beach coastline will become the new home for triathlon, relocating from Long Beach, and will also serve as the starting point for the marathon and road cycling events.

World-class facilities in downtown Los Angeles

The USC Sports Center will host rhythmic gymnastics and badminton, while the Peacock Theater and the Arena in downtown Los Angeles will stage boxing and weightlifting competitions. Additionally, Dodger Stadium will host baseball, marking the return of the sport to the Olympic Games in one of the world’s most iconic stadiums.

Surfing, synonymous with California culture, will take place at Trestles Beach in San Clemente, where athletes will enjoy the best waves Southern California has to offer. Meanwhile, cricket (T20) will return to the Olympic Games after more than a century and will be held at the Fairgrounds in Pomona in a purpose-built temporary structure.

Long Beach and other standout venues

Long Beach will host several sports, including beach volleyball at Alamitos Beach, coastal rowing at the Waterfront, and sport climbing at the Convention Center Lot, with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. Additionally, target shooting will take place in a temporary indoor range at the Convention Center, while shotgun shooting will be held at the Shotgun Center in South El Monte.

In Carson, the stadium will host archery, while in Anaheim, volleyball will take place at the Arena, marking the first time this venue will host an Olympic event. Finally, equestrian will return to the historic Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, which previously hosted the sport during the 1984 Olympic Games.
