The pre-Olympics heading to Paris 2024 are not FIBA’s only occupation these days. On Thursday, June 27, the group draw was held for the South American women’s basketball championship to be held in Chile between August 31 and September 7, at the Collective Sports Center of the Parque Estadio Nacional, in Santiago, a of the venues occupied in the past Pan American Games.

There will be nine teams from South America that will participate and will seek to dethrone Brazil as current champions after the 2022 tournament. For this year, only Peru will not present a team. The tournament will also provide three places for the AmeriCup 2025, which will also be held in Chile and which already has the host as one of the qualifiers.

In Group A were Bolivia, Brazil, Uruguay, Chile and Argentina, while Group B is made up of Venezuela, Paraguay, Ecuador and Colombia. The competition format will be all against all, with the two best teams in each group advancing to the semifinals and so on until the final. Meanwhile, the teams located in third and fourth place in each zone will compete for reclassification from fifth to eighth place.
