The Organizing Committee for the French Alps 2030 Winter Olympic Games presented its first report to the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Costa Navarino, Greece. This report was delivered by the President of the Organizing Committee, Edgar Grospiron, alongside French Minister of Sports Marie Barsacq. The presentation marks a significant milestone on the road to the 2030 Games, highlighting the French government’s commitment to the project. The government has met the deadlines set by the IOC, including parliamentary ratification of the Games’ delivery guarantee and approval of the budget law.
The report also outlines the preparatory measures taken, such as the establishment of the Organizing Committee and the appointment of Edgar Grospiron as its president. Governance mechanisms have been put in place, inspired by the successful model of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. SOLIDEO, the authority responsible for infrastructure projects, was recently created with Damien Robert as its Director General. The Organizing Committee will focus on developing a clear vision, a communication strategy, and a master plan for the Games, as well as finalizing the sports program and venue plan.
PROGRESS AND PLANNING
The French Alps 2030 Winter Olympic Games Organizing Committee has initiated a detailed planning process to ensure the success of the event. Key strategic areas to be addressed in the near future include developing a clear vision for the Games, creating an engaging and cohesive communication program, and structuring the Organizing Committee to be more closely connected with host communities. Additionally, efforts will be made to finalize the sports and disciplinary program, as well as the venue master plan, which includes detailed planning for essential services such as accommodation and transportation.
The Committee has also begun discussions with potential marketing partners and is preparing for the handover ceremony and observer program at Milano Cortina 2026. These efforts reflect France’s commitment to a sustainable and efficient approach to organizing the Games, leveraging experience gained from previous events like the Paris 2024 Olympics. The creation of SOLIDEO and the establishment of strong governance mechanisms are crucial steps toward delivering an event that not only meets Olympic standards but also contributes positively to regional development.
